  28. - 386- or 486-based personal computer (486 recommended)
  29. - Microsoft Windows 3.1, Microsoft Windows for Workgroups,
  30.   Microsoft Windows 95, or Microsoft Windows NT 3.51
  31. - 4 MB application RAM
  32. - 3 MB hard disk space, plus 2 MB TEMP space available during 
  33.   installation
  34. - For web integration, Netscape Navigator 2.0 or later or any 
  35.   other application that FULLY supports the Netscape APIs.

  38. INSTALLING ACROBAT READER
  39. =========================
  40. To install the 16-bit Acrobat Reader (called VIEWER.EXE) for use 
  41. ONLY with Microsoft Windows 3.1 or Microsoft Windows for 
  42. Workgroups:

  44. + Download the archive file AMBR16A2.EXE to a temporary location  
  45.   on your hard drive (e.g. C:\TEMP). 
  46. + Double-click AMBR16A2.EXE
  47. + The following files will be placed in the temp directory:
  48.     _inst16.ex_     
  49.     _setup.dll
  50.     _setup.lib
  51.     acroinst.ini
  52.     archive.z
  53.     setup.exe
  54.     setup.ins
  55.     setup.pkg
  56. + Double-click the installer file SETUP.EXE.
  57. + Follow the instructions on your screen.
  58. + Installation requires approximately 3 MB of free hard disk space
  59.  
  60. If installer is unable to install the plugin necessary for Acrobat
  61. to communicate with a Netscape-compatible web browser, you'll see
  62. the following installer message:
  63.  
  64. "Acrobat Amber Reader is not able to locate your Internet browser.
  65. Please enter the plugin directory for your Netscape(R) compatible
  66. Internet browser. Otherwise, leave blank and click Next."

  68. + If you know the path name you can enter it in the dialog.
  69. + If you respond with a blank path, the Netscape plugin 
  70.   PPDF16.DLL will be placed in the directory \Acrobat\Reader
  71. + Copy \Acrobat\Reader\NPPDF16.DLL to
  72.   \Netscape\Navigator\Program\plugins or to the plugins directory 
  73.   of another Netscape 2.x compatible browser.

  77. To install the 32-bit Acrobat Reader (called VIEWER32.EXE) for use
  78. ONLY with Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows NT 3.51:

  80. + Download the Amber installer AMBR32A2.EXE to a temporary 
  81.   location on your hard drive (e.g. C:\TEMP).
  82. + Double-click the installer file.
  83. + The file will expand the installation files into the temp 
  84.   directory and automatically start the installer program.

  117. VIEWING PDF PAGE-AT-A-TIME OVER THE WEB
  118. =======================================
  119. Best viewing performance for PDF documents over the web comes from
  120. optimized PDF files and a server with the ability to byteserve the
  121. files. The optimized PDF format and byteserver protocol are not 
  122. yet final, so we have provided a set of demonstration files on 
  123. Adobe's server to allow you to test the page-at-a-time 
  124. performance for yourself.

  127. Any non-optimized PDF file can be viewed in the Netscape window 
  128. (without page-at-a-time display) with the Amber Reader and 
  129. Netscape Navigator version 2.0 or better.

  132. KNOWN PROBLEMS
  133. ================
  134. Known problems in Acrobat Amber Reader Alpha 2 include:

  136. You may encounter problems when attempting to view files larger 
  137. than 4 Mb from within a Web browser.
  138.  
  139. This release of VIEWER32.EXE is not fully compatible with
  140. Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 beta.
